"I don't know what made me do that to Mystique."
"It's pretty clear Rogue. There's only one reason to push someone off a cliff.
"
—Rogue and Kurt

Premise[]

Remy kidnaps Rogue although he claims the situation is to merely help the latter forget what she had done to Mystique, the very incident that made her feel insecure though Rogue eventually discovers Gambit only took her to New Orleans so that he had a better chance of saving his father. After discovering the disappearance of their teammate, the X-Men head out to go find Rogue.

Summary[]

One night, Rogue becomes surrounded by a group of hands that slowly encase her before finding herself on the shoulder of an enlarged version of Mystique, still in her statue form, as the nightmare continues, Rogue falls from the shoulder down into Bayville as she screams but comes to her senses as she continues her session with Xavier who is trying to help her overcome her adoptive mother's betrayal. Xavier assures his student that she is doing well but Rogue grabs her bag and leaves wanting to be by herself.

Rogue, still lost in her thoughts, walks to school and bumps into Kurt, an action she apologises for but he does not want to hear it and goes to continue walking to school as he is late though he is still upset from the incident Rogue had cause, noticing her guilty expression, Kurt addresses a recent rumour and asks Rogue if she was really planning on leaving the team, Rogue, still unsure, admits she has plans to but she does not confirm or deny anything before going to leave, the two depart from each other.

As she walks on, Remy grabs Rogue by the arm much to her surprise, she panics and tries getting free but the former emits a sleeping gas from his staff into her face, she falls to the ground instantly after. Soon after, Rogue awakens on a moving train as Remy confronts her though she goes to attack her kidnapper only to find herself tied up, Remy admits that the situation is so Rogue can become less stressed as she stares on.

As Bobby and Sam go to enter the Institute, Sam smiles at his ally as the former proceeds to show off by creating an ice slide and then sliding forward. Sam goes to enter the front door but is quickly stopped by Kurt who asks if he has seen the Professor, Sam shakes his head and watches as Kurt teleports away. Inside the library, Jamie, Amara and Ray are working, Jamie grabs a book and splits himself into two clones as the three read from the books on the table, Amara continues to read as Ray watches his laptop become low with battery but charges it by using a small amount of his electrokinetic powers to recharge it without the need of its actual charger. Kurt then teleports into the room and asks the same question he asked Sam but none of them know where their Professor is so Kurt teleports out and into the garage and finds Logan doing repairs on the X-Van, as Kurt says his name, Logan becomes startles and hits his head, Kurt admits what he is doing and brings up Rogue's disappearance as he suggests that the latter left the Institute. Logan then grabs his motorcycle and goes to search for his missing teammate.

On his search, Logan drives down an alleyway and discovers Rogue's backpack that she dropped, he lifts it up causing him to detect Remy's scent on it leading him to find out who took Rogue. In the Acolytes former base, John watches a taped recording of Erik's supposed death though feels no remorse or emotion towards the situation as he laughs at it and continues to watch it on repeat numerous times but is soon confronted by Logan who has since hunted down Remy's former ally. Logan then grabs John and slams him into the control panel demanding to know where Remy is though John responds by summoning his fire in the shape of a dragon to attack Logan who manages to dodge and get to safety on a beam above. Using the advantage, Logan jumps down and slices the tanks, John becomes defenceless as he is thrown into the wall, Logan once again grabs him demanding to know where the rest of the Acolytes are but John admits that the team disbanded due to Erik's disappearance and explains that Colossus returned to Russia, Victor Creed is out somewhere and admits he does not know what happened to Remy but his answer causes him to be thrown into a chair, Logan walks away and John goes back to watching the tape once more.

On the train, Rogue questions Remy's obsession with his cards but the latter explains it is like having fifty-two explosives on him, he raises the Queen of Hearts card and says that he saves it until last, further explaining that the card has always been useful to him, something that Rogue wishes she had. Remy offers to untie his captive and says that Rogue should take charge of her own destiny and Rogue agrees as Remy touches the rope causing it to tear away allowing Rogue to be free. The latter then uses the opportunity to kick Remy back causing him to almost fall out of the train but he grabs the sides and stops himself. Gambit's staff then extends as it charges up and Gambit then threatens to derail the train if Rogue does not pull him back inside. Rogue, knowing that Remy would do such a thing, obliges and pulls him in as the latter suggests that Rogue use her powers to see his thoughts so that he can prove his innocence, Rogue goes to do so but stops before declaring she does not want Remy's memories in her head.

At the Institute, Logan enters the room housing Cerebro as he believes Remy took Rogue somewhere in the south, Xavier confirms Logan's theory as he removes the machine from his head admitting that Cerebo detected activity once Remy used his powers. Logan, along with Hank, Storm, Scott and Kurt board the Blackbird to go rescue Rogue. On the train, Rogue asks Remy why he kidnapped her and why he believed she was ready to leave, Remy admits that it was obvious and further admitted he had overheard the conversation with Kurt which annoys Rogue as she realises she had been spied upon. She then asks where the train is going as Remy reveals the two of them are traveling to New Louisiana, Rogue turns away and smiles at the idea of going somewhere she likes. Down in New Orleans, Rogue admits she appreciates the celebration of Mardi Gras as she says the event allows everyone to fit in no matter who they are, Remy says it is his first time in the city on his free time which piques Rogue's curiosity about what Remy does for work, Remy then lifts up a stolen wallet but Rogue takes it from him and returns it to its rightful owner. The two head to a local restaurant as Rogue talks about how much she missed places like New Orleans, Remy echoes her sentiment as Rogue wonders how long he has spent being a thief, Remy mentions that it runs in the family as Rogue asks if his father was also one, Remy expresses his dislike for father as the two are confronted by a man named Julien. Julien then goes to knock Remy out but he and Rogue overpower Julien and his men as Rogue uses Remy's staff to knock Julien out of the restaurant. The fight continues as the other men run out to finish the fight but are stopped once Remy charges up a parking meter causing the coins to come out, Rogue stops Julien from harming Remy as she sends him unconscious by absorbing his powers which causes her to have visions of a man tied up in a building. Remy then finishes the fight by tearing the necklace from Rogue's neck, charging it up and throwing the beads to the men as he runs away from the area with her.

On the Blackbird, Storm finishes speaking to Xavier as she relays more news to Scott, Kurt and Logan that Cerebro detected both Rogue and Remy had uses their powers. Storm further states that Xavier had also tracked the two below in the French quarter as Kurt expresses his worry that it would be hard to find Rogue during Mardi Gras. Down below, Rogue brings up the memory she had and asks Remy about his association with the Thieves Guild, Remy explains he is no longer part of them as Rogue mentions the rival family known as the Rippers. Remy goes to leave but stops around the corner and waits for Rogue. As he continues to walk, Remy notices Scott not too far away and returns to Rogue claiming that he does not want her seen with him so that she can be safe but Rogue insists on going to Bloodmoon Bayou to rescue Remy's father as she claims it would be dangerous to go alone due to the hidden security guarding the area but Remy refuses her help. Rogue, still guilt-ridden for what she did to Mystique, insists on still going. Elsewhere, Storm, Kurt and Scott inspect the area as Scott notices the mess that was caused must be Remy's doing, a couple walks by the group and comments on how he likes their costumes, Kurt thanks him in return as Logan walks out of a building and admits Rogue and Remy were in the area.

During their trip to Bloodmoon Bayou, Rogue gives directions on where a landmine is, Remy throws down some charged up pieces of confetti that reveals it. As the boat travels through the swampy waters, the two talk about their parents, Remy then claims that even though someone adopted a child, that alone does not make them a parent, Rogue agrees as she states Mystique only cared about her due to her powers, Remy once again echoes Rogue's sentiment as Rogue laments on how the only difference in their situation is, is that Remy is on a trip to save his father. On land, Logan catches another scent as Kurt teleports to them holding a raft and then asks Scott if he could take turns blowing it up but Scott instead presses a button that inflates the raft with ease. Julien then walks over to his father as he tells him that the sensors in the water have detected movement, his father uses binoculars and discovers that the activity the sensors picked up were Remy and Rogue's boat, Julien then fires a small missile which hits a boat, it goes up in flames as he and his father walk away from the scene. Remy and Rogue's real boat then docks as the two climb a rope onto a gazebo. Rogue then gets another memory and notices a camera, she then shoves Gambit down, Remy's finger accidentally touches Rogue's face as the latter grabs at her captor and yells, although quietly, at him now that she knows the truth of why they are there, and that it was not so Rogue could relieve stress but instead so Remy could utilise her powers for himself, Rogue continues to confront him about the issue and states that even he knew the Rippers would find him during their time at the Jazz club but Remy tries to claim his innocence and goes to explain the situation from his point of view but Rogue does not want to hear it. Feeling used once more, she leaves him and walks away.

Remy then heads inside the Bayou mansion to enact the rescue plan himself. As he enters, he grabs an object and charges it up and allows it to roll towards to of the Rippers inside, once clear, Remy enters the room his father is held in and frees him though calls him by name. Jean-Luc then states that he thought Remy had walked away from these kinds of situations but Remy states he is only there for Jean-Luc and that nothing has changed, his father then suggests they cause damage to the Ripper's homebase and that to do so, he would need Remy's powers but the two are stopped by Julien and his father, Rogue then comes up from behind the two Ripper's and knocks them out by touching them. Jean-Luc watches in surprise as the Rippers fall but Remy tells him to be quiet, Rogue has another memory that shows her how to escape, she then fights off the other Rippers and leads the two safety. Outside, the X-Men fight off the other Rippers. Rogue then sees a window of opportunity as she gets Jean-Luc and Remy into a boat and drives away with them, Logan and the others then follow after them slightly avoiding the explosives in the water as one goes off, Kurt saves his adoptive sister in time. Julien starts circling around Remy but the latter charges up the boat causing Julien to dive into the water. Storm then summons a wind that causes Remy to drift to land as Logan grabs him then pins him to a tree, Rogue yells at him to let Remy go which Logan does. As he walks away, he tells Rogue he wants answers and Rogue says she will tell him. Remy then asks Rogue what she plans on doing next, Rogue admits she'll be returning to the X-Men and that she does not care what happens to Remy but the latter doesn't believe her. Remy then leaves with his father as Kurt asks her if she's okay, Rogue admits she is fine as she reveals Remy gave her the Queen of Hearts card. The X-Men then leave to head back to Bayville.

Notes[]

  • Remy takes Rogue to New Orleans during the celebration known as Mardi Gras. In 2003, Mardi Gras was celebrated on the 4th of March which possibly suggests that the events of the episode happened on that same day though whether or not it was also set in 2003 is highly possible but unknown.
  • Apocalypse only appears but on the tape recording when he supposedly killed Erik.
  • Mystique only appears but as a statue and as a nightmare to Rogue.
  • Sam, Jamie, Amara and Ray appear but do not speak.
  • This is Rogue's first appearance since Impact since she had been absent in No Good Deed, Target X, Sins of the Son and Uprising.
  • First and only appearance of the Thieves Guild and the Rippers.
  • Remy calls Rogue Cherie four times in this episode.
    • Cherie is French for love and is also the name Remy commonly calls Rogue is other X-Men media.
