When Storm exhibits her powers to save the life of a young graduate student, Xavier appears to explain her mutant heritage. One night during a talk with Erik whom he refers to as Magnus, both Xavier and Erik watch television to discover that Canadian authorities had apprehended a mutant and was able to get him into custody as Logan revealed his Adamantium claws to defend himself from a bear attack. As Xavier departs, a maid, whom served tea to the two reverts back to her true form as Mystique and watches as the Professor leaves after Erik remains adamant that mutants were Homo Superior much to his friend's dismay.

Back at the Institute, Storm questions Xavier about his encounter but the Professor assures her that he is certain mutants and humans could still co-exist and suggests he could help Logan as he offers a drink to his new recruit. After Ororo uses lightning to charge Cerebro, Xavier utilises the device to track down Logan and located him in Canada. In Canada, Logan breaks out of his confinement and runs down an alley only to be chased by the police, in the alley, an old homeless man sits on the ground and mentions that the man they were after had cut through the bars and escaped. As the officers thank him for his contribution, the man gleefully responds it was his pleasure as he then turns back into Mystique once the police leave the area. As he escapes , Logan is then confronted by Storm who assures him that she is a mutant just like him as a projection of Xavier appears to explain to Logan who exactly he was.

Just then, Erik appears in the area in an effort to convince Logan to join him as he knew of how humans hated their kind but Logan, who hated war and did not want to participate in any more violence, voiced his distaste and sided with Xavier and Storm who had watched the encounter from the sides and were pleased after Logan then sides with them. A year later, Storm and Logan return from a mission they were on and explain to Xavier that Erik was still out in the world causing trouble. As they continued their talk, Logan began to show his liking for how well the Institute began to look as Xavier goes on to explain that he wanted to open a school for mutants who needed help with their powers and as a safe area for mutants who were struggling. As he further explained his vision, he then activated a newly repaired and improved Cerebro where he had the machine show Storm and Logan a picture of Scott Summers, whom at the time was located in Anchorage, Alaska, the three took notice in the picture which showed Scott in the process of using his optic blasts.

In Anchorage, Alaska, Scott was placed on a hospital bed where he was wheeled inside as doctors explained that the patient had previously complained about his vision being blurred and a sharp sensation in his eyes. As one of the doctors attempted to check Scott's eyes to find the source of the problem, Scott begged him not to as his optic blasts powered up. Inside the hospital, Xavier handed over a cheque to a man that covered the damages caused. As they spoke, the man allowed the Professor to visit Scott where the former discovered more information on Scott such as that he was an orphaned boy due to his parents and supposedly his brother being killed in a plane crash. Xavier stated that the man was simply afraid of Scott only for the man to interject that so was everyone else in the room as he told the Professor he had been the only person in days willing to be in Scott's room.

Inside the room, Xavier explained who he was and what his intentions were. As he heard this, Scott expressed that he was pleased to hear that someone hoped he would have a good future ahead of him. As he left Scott, Xavier showed his gratitude to another doctor who analysed a material known as Ruby Quartz, as the Professor explained how he would utilise the material so that Scott could have his eyes open without unleashing his powers, the doctor expressed his distaste for mutants as he called Scott a freak but stopped as Xavier prompted to Logan to show the doctor his stance on Mutant Segregation, an offer which Logan happily obliged to. Back inside his hospital room, the doctor presented a visor to his patient and ordered Scott not to open his eyes until it was firmly over his eyes. As he placed it on, Scott opened his eyes to see the doctor, Xavier and Logan now in a red tint and claimed they were terrific. At reception so that he could be discharged, Scott signed papers and thanked the receptionist and apologised for the commotion he caused, something that the receptionist remained quiet on but Xavier telepathically prompted her to reply with "you're welcome" but she only stayed silent and looked around confused unsure where she heard the voice. Outside, Xavier, Logan and Storm lead their new recruit to the Blackbird Jet but upon seeing the jet, Scott was plagued by visions of the crash that killed his parents and ran away, as he did, Xavier assured him that he would be okay and apologised for not thinking ahead but Scott assured his teacher it would be okay. As he sat on the jet, Xavier called him a brave man as they continued to fly back to the Institute. Later that afternoon, inside the Institute, Xavier showed Scott to his room and explained that the outfit was for his missions with the X-Men and that he should protect his identity as a mutant at all costs. As Scott stepped into his room, Xavier then explained that Logan would take him down to Bayville High to be registered.

In Logan's car, Scott, much to Logan's annoyance, expressed how he was excited only for his new mentor to show how he disliked the new recruit. As they stopped outside a bank, Logan then explained Scott was not to go inside as once a do-gooder did go inside, a robbery was highly likely to follow. As they continued talking, a truck pulled to the side as robbers stepped out and Scott, his uniform already under his casual attire, stepped in to assist Logan, much to the latter's ordered to stay put. As the two fought, Scott saved a young girl held hostage but despite doing so, he was witnessed by the public who rallied together and called him a freak, as an officer stepped forward and warned the new X-Man not to talk back to him, Scott responded that he was not scared only to be punched soon after. Back in Logan's car, he asked Scott if the ice pack given to him was helpful and noted that the civilians who watched the fight unfold gave him a hard time only to be told by Scott that the people were just freaked out about what they saw, a sentiment Logan agreed to as he said he would to if he had seen what had occurred. Later that night, Logan spoke to Xavier about how he was impressed with Scott as the latter revealed he had heard the entire conversation and thanked the Professor for his help at the hospital. Meanwhile, in another household, a worried woman panicked as she expressed her concern over sounds she had heard where she and her husband stepped into their daughter's bedroom. Their daughter, Jean, begged her parents to make the issues stop as multiple objects floated above her as her parents watched in horror.

Wanting answers for their daughter's outbursts, Mr and Mrs Grey along with Jean travelled to the Institute where they spoke to Xavier, who was sat in the room with Scott, Logan and Storm, as they hoped the Professor could do something as the X-Men watched as Jean continued to lose control and caused pillows to float as her mother told her to stop it. As Xavier assured Jean he could help her, he explained that he had known Mr Grey since their teaching days at Bard College. Even though they did not want to, the Grey's decided it was for the best that their daughter be left in the care of the X-Men as Xavier reassured them many times that Jean would be safe within the Institute and would be able to attend Bayville High without issues. Distracted, Xavier noted this and hoped that Scott could show Jean around, something he agreed to as Jean asked Storm if she could see outside.

At Bayville High School, Toad watched as a few boys played basketball but as he attempted to join in, the boys expressed their hatred for him as they knew he was a mutant. As he heard this, Toad fired at them and bounced away. Inside the school, School tried showing Jean around only for her telepathy to get worse which caused her to read more minds than she wanted as this happened, Scott offered a timetable to her and explained he was still relatively new himself only for Jean to cry as she apologised and ran from him.

As she returned to the Institute, Jean cried on the stairs but stopped herself as she realised that Storm was there too and apologised for not noticing her. As Storm understood the situation, she explained she calmed herself down by being attuned to the weather where she continued to talk to Jean. Some time later, Jean sat in a room with Xavier and used her abilities to guess the icon of what was on her cards and scored full marks but the two were interrupted by Scott who had knocked on the door who entered and explained that the next day, Jean and her English class were meant to go on a trip to see a play. As the two talked, Scott asked if the two could be dismissed and Xavier agreed.

On the bus, Jean talked about how the Professor had good hopes for her as she and Scott took their seats where unbeknownst to them, Toad was perched upon and fired at the driver which caused him to lose control of the steering wheel as Jean questioned who Todd was as Scott answered he was a mutant like them. As the bush crashed, Scott admitted he was fine but the pole in which they crashed into was keeping Toad trapped. As the two rushed over to him, Jean used her powers to raise the object and saved him, Jean and Scott then moved away from the situation as they did not want to deal with unwanted attention.

Back at the institute, Jean thanked Xavier for his work only for the latter to say that the team was in the situation together. Scott then entered the room and mentioned how he felt like he did not have a situation under control over for Jean to blush as Xavier admitted what Scott said was out loud which caused Scott to also blush.

27th February 2002

One night, a blue furred figure is burnt at the stake but the same figure woke up as he discovered it was a dream and that it was 8am and he was in the Institute. As Scott appeared, he mentioned to Kurt that he was late for school and ordered him to grab his image inducer as he further expressed that their mutant identities were to be a secret. As Kurt teleported out of his room, he watched as Scott knocked on Rogue's door and told her to hurry up as Kurt wondered why the latter used her name both in and out of uniform as Rogue answered that it was the same answer as to why Jean used her name for both identities, Rogue then claimed she would not take long as Scott then told Kitty to be careful as Evan sped forward on his skateboard, an action which Scott called him out for, as the latter continued to tell them to get ready to leave, Rogue placed on her gloves and Kitty asked if Xavier had chosen Scott's codename of Cyclops or if he had and asked if it was possible if they could be changed as Kurt wondered if Kitty disliked Shadowcat as her name only for her to say she liked it but was just curious. Jean then teased Scott as she called the situation harder than directing the combat training sessions.

At 8.25am, Kurt walked through school as he overheard students talking about how he was one of the students at the Institute and claimed that Jean was the most normal one out of the group. As they walked through the halls, Evan told Kurt that they were not popular around the school, in class, Kurt sat down as his teacher gave the class their homework, an assignment which caused Kurt to look uneasy.

Later on at 3.37pm during their training sessions, the X-Men worked together in the Danger Room as they dodged attacks as Jean spoke to Kurt. As Xavier entered to check on his students, Scott claims the team still had to work on team-coordination. Xavier praised them and allowed them to go for dinner as Jean and Scott stayed behind. As the two spoke, Scott reassured Jean that everything would be okay.

That night, Kurt worked on his assignment but struggled to write as he did not know how he could answer his topic of "What I am at home that I can't be at school". Kitty entered the room and asked for Kurt's history book as she had left hers in her locker. As Kurt allowed her to take it, Kitty wondered if the former slept in his human form. As she left, Kurt turned his inducer off but dreamt that it failed at school and the students saw his naked, true form which they laughed at as he woke up in horror.

That morning on the 28th of February at 7.32AM, the X-students were in their yoga class taught by Logan who told them to breathe, mainly Scott as he struggled to remain balance. As the class continued, Logan removed headphones from Evan as Rogue spoke to Kurt. As Kurt fell, Rogue teased him as she called him an acrobat and reminded him to stay in the present moment. Xavier soon entered the room to talk with Kurt. As Kurt spoke with his Professor, the latter admitted he knew Kurt struggled to sleep but assured him that he would never deliberately read someone's mind unless he had permission.

Disappointed they had to walk to school alone, Kurt expressed his opinion but Kurt claimed she liked the walk and asked if he had finished his papers, Kurt answered that it was not completed done as the two were surrounded by other students. As the students teased the two and called them love birds, Kurt, annoyed with the situation, turned into his true form as he caused them to leave the area. Alone again, Kurt expressed he was a monster only for Kurt to comfort him and say that he was not.

At school, Kurt entered his class as he smiled and sat down as his teacher announced that the students were to give in their assignments. Back at the institute, inside the study, Xavier asked Storm and Logan about their opinions of the students only for Logan to claim that Rogue was a handful and Storm sided with him saying that Rogue had not found her center in the class. Storm then said that Evan still caused issues but chose carefully how she worded it as Logan said he was not the type to be quiet, as they continued, he and Storm agreed that Kitty was a perfect student and Kurt had enough time to get aquatinted with his new home.

Back at the school, Evan showed his excited emotions only for Kurt to tell him to quiet down as the two left class only for Kurt to be pulled back by his teacher, Ms Vasquez who showed concerns for his mental health as she revealed what was on Kurt's assignment sheet as he claimed he felt blue. The two continued to speak to each other as Scott entered with Kurt using it as a cue to leave as he assured his teacher he was doing fine.

At the Institute during a training session, Logan questioned the team if they had any questions about CPR as he told Scott that Jean, who posed as a victim in need of resuscitation, was back in a position to breath my herself as Jean smiled at Scott. Kitty then asked what CPR stood for as Evan answered it was "Cardiopulamory resuscitation" as Rogue answered with "Connivingly perfect redheads" as Logan told them it was a heart and lungs jump start procedure. As Rogue continued on with her annoyed tone, Scott questioned if she had a problem as Rogue ignored him and left the room as Kitty asked what was wrong as Kurt explained that due to her powers, Rogue would be unable to perform CPR as she would further endanger the victim.

At Bayville High, Rogue went to her locker and spoke to Risty, who was Mystique in disguised, as the latter asked if Rogue enjoyed it at the Institute only for Rogue to answer that it was perfect as she watched Scott and Jean who were stood close by. As Risty then claimed that Scott wouldn't care if the other X-Men, minus Jean, faced their demised, a claim that Rogue argued against as she said Scott was a caring person. As Risty stepped away from her to leave for class, she told herself that the situation would be much easier than she anticipated as she morphed into Mystique,

At the Brotherhood House, Pietro complained that the team couldn't sit around now that the X-Men were a team as Lance, Toad and Fred all lounged around but quickly got up as Mystique entered and demanded they stand as she claimed the boys had work to be done. As they lined up, Mystique explained that their lesson would be in psychological warfare only for Toad to confuse it with germ warfare which Pietro pointed him out for and called him an idiot. As Fred questioned why they were doing that as a lesson, Mystique interrupted him and claimed it was part of a bigger plan as she admitted she planned to recruit Rogue within the Brotherhood, a sentiment the Brotherhood boys voiced their concerns over as they knew how she acted but Mystique told them that once she had confronted Rogue, the latter would no longer want to be with the X-Men as she departed from the house.

At the Institute, Kurt handed the phone to Kitty who spoke to her mother. As he walked away, Rogue noticed his behaviour and wondered what it was like getting a call from ones parent only for Kurt to say that he did not see Mystique phoning him for whatever reason. The next day at school, Jean sat with Rogue and mentioned how Scott would notice how the former looked at him and claimed all anyone could see around Scott was hearts. As she taunted her further, Jean became more cynical as she walked away leaving Rogue confused, Jean's eyes glowed yellow as Mystique left her adoptive daughter alone to continue her plan. As she remained at the table, Fred walked over and introduced himself as he said Jean was friendly but Rogue admitted she felt the opposite was true as Fred told her to stay cool and left her alone.

4.00PM in the Danger Room, Rogue claimed she needed assistance from Scott who was on the floor unable to see as his visor was also on the ground. Rogue then ordered Scott to fire anyways and as he did so, she revealed to be fine as Scott placed his visor over his eyes. As Jean walked over and said the two needed to talk due to the room not being a place for jokes, Rogue told Jean to stuff her conversation as she left the room, still hurt from the earlier encounter. As she walked outside, Rogue shoved past Evan who was leaving to have dinner with his mother, Storm watched as her nephew left where she was watched by Kurt who was stood at a window.

The next day in the library, Mystique morphed into Scott as she told Rogue the idea of her being with him made him sick. Their encounter was seen by Pietro who sat across from them where he grabbed Scott's arm and attempted to fight him but the two defused the situation and Scott left the room as Pietro spoke with Rogue for how she stood up for him. Rogue then defended Scott, unaware it wasn't really him, and Pietro them invited her to the Brotherhood's house,

That night, Rogue packed her things and left the Institute where she made her way to the Brotherhood house where inside, she was welcomed by the boys and Mystique whom asked their new addition to talk about herself which Rogue did. During their conversation, Mystique repeated something she said as Scott which causing all, including Rogue, to panic knowing that Rogue had heard it before. Despite their efforts to divert the situation, Rogue wised up and realised the Jean and Scott she had talked to were not in fact the real ones as the boys were ordered to stop her. Pietro then tried to stop Rogue but the latter easily evaded him as she grabbed his arm and used his speed to escape. As she fought off the others, she obtained Mystique's shapeshifting ability and left the house. Inside Kurt's room, Rogue, in Mystique's form told him that she loved him and called him her son as he thanked her and went back to sleep, Rogue then turned back to normal and left the room.

One day, Evan and his human friends were outside skateboarding. Wanting to show-off, Evan told them he would use the railing rather than the stairs as one of the boys suggested he could just use a "mad hop" to jump if he needed to. As Evan flipped over a car, he landed imperfectly and claimed it was a stupid stunt.

Meanwhile in the Danger Room, the X-Men finished one of their training sessions as Rogue mocked Jean and Scott as they continued to lovingly talk to each other. Evan then ran in at the end and realised he was late as he was chastised for Scott, as Evan apologised, Xavier entered and took him out in order to speak to him. Inside the study, Xavier apologised for everyone coming off as strict as he claimed Evan had to be responsible as a member of his X-Men, Evan then who even made him join the team as he further stated he didn't ask to be born a mutant as he then told his aunt that he just wanted to chill and have a normal life. As Storm tried to talk sense into her nephew, Evan, annoyed left the room not wanting to deal with the issue at hand.

At school, one of Evan's friends introduced him to a guy named Cal Rankin who was said to know a great spot for them to skate in. As Evan expressed that he was unsure, his friends then convinced him to go with them, something that Evan caved in on and left with them. The boys skated on as Cal introduced them to a challenge, one that had them skating close to the edge of a road without falling down the gorge. As the other boys failed, Evan easily caught up with Cal only for the latter to fall as Evan watched as new friend saved himself using a spike that came from his arm.

Inside Xavier's office, Evan explained what he saw as Xavier explained there was no recent mutant activity that Cerebro registered but thanked Evan for coming to talk to him as he then told his student to talk to him if he felt the need for cutting school. Inside the Rankin house, Xavier thanked Cal's mother for letting him be inside as she placed down a tray with a teapot and cups down as she admitted her last name was Ehrlich due to no longer being with her husband. Cal then telepathically reached out to Xavier to further explain some details as Xavier spoke to Ms. Ehrlich about his students at the Institute and mentioned that Cal was a mutant, as Ms Ehrlich stated she just believed her son was a genius prodigy as she had never seen him do anything with his powers.
Comic 6
Two days later and now at the Institute, Ms Ehrlich and Cal visited Xavier where they came across Logan who told the two they were expected. In the main foyer, Xavier mentioned he wished to see the two in the east wing but Ms Ehrlich apologised as the place was big. Cal then collapsed to his knees as he exhibited the powers of Scott, Kurt and Evan as the group attempted to deal with the new mutant. Logan then berated Scott for being distracted as the latter apologise. Inside and now alone, Xavier told Cal that his power allowed him to absorb the powers of those around him if he was psychically close to someone as he then admitted he wished to run some further tests.

Outside after being evacuated, Jean and Scott spoke together about their current situation as Jean threatened to read his mind. Inside, Xavier admitted Cal was not a mutant but was instead the victim of an experimentation caused caused by his father years prior. As he heard this, Evan instead called his would be allies freaks as he believed they rejected him, Evan stood up in an act of defence as he faced Cal. As the former confronted the latter outside, Cal and his mother left as Evan demanded that Cal not tell anyone about the mutants as the latter suggested Evan leave with them as he did not fit in with his so called friends but Evan declined as he stated he did and turned to leave.

Inside the Institute, Xavier welcome Hank McCoy, a blue furred mutant with a beast like appearance, the Professor offered Hank a job with the latter questioning about the other mentors at the school as Xavier claimed that they already tutored on other things. Inside the Danger Room, Logan ordered the students to stand up as he was not done with his lessons but was stopped by Xavier who had entered the room with Hank to introduce the new addition to the team. Xavier then gave his students good news that Hank was to be their new training teacher, a sentiment which the X-Men positively echoed. Worried about how the team had been adapted now with new helped, Storm expressed the worry to Xavier who was quick to understand how she felt about the situation as the two came to an agreement that what the team needed was a leader as the watched the group outside.

Outside, the X-Men and their New Mutant teammates played a game of mutant ball that was supervised by Hank as Kurt apologised for being out. Evan lightly stated he should be sorry as the New Mutants should not be walking all over them like they were currently doing. As Rogue questioned where Scott was, Kurt answered saying he was in the kitchen studying geometry, the students continued as Jean took her place as the next player, as she battered the ball, Logan yelled for Jamie to be focused as the ball, hit with force, swiftly moved forward as Sam stepped in to try and catch it but bumped into Jamie whose power activated causing him to multiply and caused Jean to be out which Evan was not happy by as he argued with Hank who remained adamant on his decision. Annoyed, Evan continued to confront his teacher as his allies stood around and watched as Roberto called him a sore loser as the two attempted to fight but were stopped, Roberto apologised but Evan continued to remain annoyed. Hank, done with his behaviour, told Evan he was out of the game, Evan then left as Scott appeared to take up role as captain.

Evan, slightly calmer, thanked Scott for allowing him back on the team as Scott said they were a team as the group continued to play against each other. As Jamie stepped up to play, Jean intervened with her powers and so did Bobby who caused Jamie to slip on the ice towards the base as Scott caught the ball. As the game continued, Roberto played next as Jean continued to make it for challenging, Kurt then teleported upwards and caught the ball but cracked the class he had almost fallen into. The next player, Rogue, absorbed Ray's power and strongly hit the ball as she called her move stupid as Amara defended Sam who had thrown himself upwards and grabbed the ball. Wanting a further challenge, the control panel was disable which caused Scott to struggle to see even with his glasses but was assured he was still fine to swing, Rahne, as her wolf form caught the ball where she passed it to Jubilee. Evan finally played his turn as he agreed to go with the strategy he had already formed before the game but went against it as his friends worked together to stop the New Mutants, the game ended and Hank praised the teams for their work.

Inside Hank's lab, Scott entered and thanked his new teacher as he thanks him for allowing him inside as he admitted that Xavier promoted him to be the X-Men's field leader as Hank voiced his praise as Scott admitted he felt worried for having such a role but was assured he would do fine. Hank then turned around as his computer alerted him of an email from an anonymous sender that stated they were interested in his work, Hank then dismissed Scott.

At school, Kurt, Kitty, Evan, Rogue, Amanda and Scott watched as Jean played her soccer match as they, mainly Scott, cheered for her. Kitty then engaged in conversation with Evan about Kurt and Amanda as Rogue listened in, Kitty and Evan laughed as a guy behind them yelled at Scott as he was unable to see due to Scott being stood up, Rogue buried her face into her hands, embarrassed. As the game continued, Jean collapsed where she claimed to Scott than she had seen an angel go by.

At the institute, the students barged into Xavier's office who at the time was sat inside with Hank in order to tell him about Jean's sighting, Xavier listened in as he raised a newspaper and wondered if the angel Jean had saw was the same one reported in the paper, Jean admitted it was as she and the others left. As they walked through the halls, Rogue mentioned the time she and Scott encountered Angel and said that his name was Warren Worthington the Third as Scott further admitted that Warren had been invited to the Institute but declined the offer believing that the mutant just wanted to finish his senior year without a problem.

Xavier then used Cerebro to locate Warren but the search proved to be futile as nothing showed up as he then asked for Jean's help to which she agreed to. Xavier then calmed Jean down as she used her powers to learn where Warren was, as the two searched, they came to the conclusion that he was being held prisoner in the sewers. The X-Men then made their way under the surface as the came across a two way system as Scott was ordered to take the lead, Evan noticed his aunt's strange behaviour and asked her about it but she told him to remain focused on his surroundings as Storm then admitted the reason why she was so tensed was due to her claustrophobia. As the team ventured on, Jean and Scott spoke about what was happening as Scott then told his team that they would find nothing. Rogue then hinted to the others that the tactic was just a rouse as Morlocks slowly began to reveal themselves from the tunnel ahead.

Surrounded by the Morlocks, Scott surrendered and the X-Men were taken to Callisto as Jean rushed over to Angel who was tied up with his arms above him, Callisto then stood up and mocked their captives as she grabbed Jean's hair, Scott then fired an optic blast and threatened to start a fight as one Morlock claimed that the X-Men weren't born mutated as Kurt mentioned the Institute and deactivated his inducer, an act that Callisto called cowardly as Storm seemingly over faced her phobia and fought off the threat. Kurt, Rogue, Scott and Kitty ran as she and Kurt overheard a flute and discovered a Morlock who could control animals with a flute. As Rogue and Scott fought off their own adversaries, Jean remained with Warren who tried to restore his memories and thoughts back to normal which proved successful. Warren then stood up and confronted Callisto for kidnapping and brainwashing him and then her next plan to kill him, Jean then extended an invitation to the Morlocks but they refused as Storm declared she would return, a sentiment Callisto said she looked forward to. At the Institute, Xavier invited Warren to join the team but he declined and instead offered Jean a chance to go with him for dinner, Jean accepted.

Kitty walked over to Hank who was busy and lost in thought as he read another email in which asked to meet in person. Due to his mutant heritage, Hank declined as he then praised Kitty for her bravery as the latter then expressed shock, as Hank questioned what was wrong, he read a new mutant that openly admitted the sender knew Hank was a mutant.

Xavier, who was scheduled to leave the Institute for the weekend on business, spoke with Kurt, Evan, Jean, Rogue and Kitty as they would be left alone due to Logan, Hank and Storm being away on a mission with the other students. As he spoke with them, the Professor further explained that he expected the group to still attend school and train. He then placed Scott in charge and left.

At school, Kurt walked to class with a friend of is who discovered the Institute would be faculty free and saw this as an opportunity as a way to throw a party, Kurt tried to talk him out of it but Freddy went along with the idea and declared to those around him that a party would be held at Xavier's which Scott overheard. At the institute, Scott expressed his worry over a part but Kurt attempted to assure the team leader that their Professor wouldn't know if he wasn't told only for Jean to tell him that Xavier could read their minds. Kitty stepped in and mentioned that it would be against his principles as the team trained. Kurt then further expressed a party would be perfect to show their classmates that they weren't freaks for living at a boarding school. Jean then objected as she stated placed such as the Danger Room were a hidden secret for certain reasons. As the training ended, Scott allowed the party to be held as Kurt, Evan and Kitty cheered.

That night during the party, Jean lowered her guard and previous opinion and claimed that the party was not doing so bad as the X-Men then discovered that the Brotherhood attended. As Toad attempted to start a fight, Evan slowly produced his spikes but was stopped when Scott reminded him that other people were there, displeased that their rival group were there, Scott ordered his team to keep an eye on the Brotherhood. Jean and Kitty stepped out of the main foyer but discovered Fred who was attempting to get inside the Danger Room, Jean then used her powers but struggled as Kitty expressed that Fred was strong, Kitty then took charge of the situation and convinced Fred to return to the dance as Jean fell down as she was exhausted. In another room, Lance and Toad discovered the garage area in which the Blackbird was usually docked but were found by Scott and Kurt, the four fought by stopped once someone walked in on them but was told to leave. Kurt then teleported Lance and Toad into the woods yet back in the party, Jean noticed someone sat in one of Xavier's extra chairs but used her powers to shove him out of him as Scott realised it was time to end the party.

After he had successfully emptied the Institute of the students, the X-Men noticed a fire that started from the DJ booth and used their powers to stop it from spreading. Once the fire was out, Scott noted it would be hours if the place was to look like nothing went wrong. As Kitty entered the kitchen for cleaning supplied, she discovered Fred who was asleep and laughed to herself that he would sleep well. On the day of Xavier's return, he questioned if all went well as the team lied and stated it felt empty, Scott then came forward and admitted what had occurred as he believed they were not to be trusted but Xavier believed the opposite.
