Cerebro, Spanish for "the brain", is a piece of highly useful equipment that was built by Charles Xavier in an effort to reach out to mutants that were out of his telepathic range. Inside the Institute, it is mainly stored in a large, dome-shapes room. When not used by Xavier, it is also operated by Jean due to her also being a telepath.

History[]

As time went on, Charles Xavier created a helmet-shaped device which he named Cerebro in order to easily track down other mutants. Originally, Xavier used Cerebro to locate the young mutants that would eventually become his X-Men and eventually those who would become his New Mutants.

Usage[]

When in use, Cerebro greatly enhances the powers of a telepath and allows the user to locate almost every mutant in the world. It is possible than non-telepaths can operate it but Cerebro works better when a telepath is at the helm. When out of the Institute, Xavier made a smaller version that was linked to the main panels at the Institute and was able to use it a fair distance away such as when it was used during the fight with Apocalypse although used by Jean. However, mutants such as Erik, are able to block themselves from being tracked due to his helmet

Trivia[]

  • Cerebro went through several improvements.
  • While being used to track mutants around the world, Cerebro amplifies Charles Xavier's powers when activated.
  • Cerebro appears to be safer within the Institute.
  • It also later became portable as greater threats emerged.
  • Another meaning for the brain, is the "cerebrum" which is of Latin origin.
