Character Male Mutants Independent  Season 3 Season 4

Appearances[]

Personality[]

Mastermind showed signs of being calm and collected and was not above tricking the locals of Venice as he used his powers to allude his presence and was not afraid to do so in an attempt to try and flee from Erik, despite his powers not working on the latter. Upon discovering he could be seen as himself rather than as whatever illusion he projected himself to be by Erik, he showed signs of being easily startled as at first, he did not know who he was being confronted by. (The Toad, The Witch and the Wardrobe)

Upon confronting Wanda, Mastermind showed no signs of mercy as he altered her memories. When Wanda had been rescued by Kurt and Toad, Erik questioned Mastermind if he had done as ordered with Mastermind calmly telling the Master of Magnetism that he had done the job and showed no remorse for what he had done. (The Toad, The Witch, and the wardrobe)

Physical appearance[]

Jason Wyngarde, also known as Mastermind is a man in his mid to late 50s who sports a black beard and matching black hair, his eyes seem to be a dark colour presumably brown and he wears a brown coat also with black buttons as well as a dark red shirt under it.

Powers and abilities[]

Mastermind's power allows him to make people see, hear, feel, smell and taste things that weren't actually present although a downside to his powers as that those affected by it had to be within range or else it wouldn't work. His other ability is telepathy but he was not as powerful as those such as Xavier, Jean or Mesmero.

Upon activating his powers, Mastermind's eyes glow blue which is then the intended victim will see what he wants them to see, examples of illusions include pretending to be a dad with carrying a young child and a young woman who caught the attention of a guy walking past. He also changed Wanda's memories on Erik's orders so that her hate for her father would be repressed.

However, his powers do not seem to affect Mutants like Erik, this could be due to the fact the latter's helmet kept Mastermind's powers from affecting him thus allowing him to see Mastermind as he really was instead of someone else.

The Toad, The Witch, And the wardrobe/ Under Lock and Key[]

One of the newest members of Magneto's crew, Mastermind was recruited by Erik to help him with his daughter, Wanda. knowing that Wanda's hatred of him would never stop on its own and that her escalating desire for revenge would keep her as a constant threat to his plans, Erik used Mastermind to alter her memories which caused Wanda to believe the happy childhood memories that had been implanted were real and had happened when she was a child. -The Toad, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

Mastermind was then ordered by Erik to interrogate Mesmero and find out what why the stolen artifact was important, Mastermind then discovered the The Spider Stone was only half of a key and upon using his powers on Mesmero discovered that once reunited with its second half, which was located in a museum in London, it would be used to open the second door which would free Apocalypse but unbeknownst to both he and Erik, the only way the door could be opened was if the Guardian of the stone was destroyed. At some point after Mesmero escaped, Mastermind informed his leader of the escape with both not knowing how Mesmero so easily escaped along with the stone and voiced his concern about the two halves being connected which were not met with worry as Erik said they were going to London to retrieve the other half. - Under Lock and Key

Impact[]

Upon the release of Apocalypse, Mastermind still remained as a member of the Acolytes and was used by Erik to see what the locals of Egypt knew but every attempt proved to be futile as those that were subjected to Mastermind's powers provided non-important information or knew nothing about the situation. After Apocalypse's freedom and soon defeat, it is unknown what happened to Mastermind.
